Notes In 1930, the ventriloquist Cyril Talbot had his own performing company called Talbot’s Entertainers, which had been touring Australia for two years. The company consisted of wizardry, magic, comedy, juggling, music and papyrology, including lightning sketches and something called a calligraphic turn. Cyril Talbot himself was famous for being the only Australian ventriloquist to operate more than two dolls at one time, and was known to have operated four dolls in one set and five in another. The most famous of his dolls was Larry Brown who, at one stage, even had his own performing company, Larry Brown and Company, and was the judge of a fancy dress competition.
