John Naish was born in Wales in 1923 (and is therefore Welsh), and served in the British Army (with His Majesty's Welsh Guards) during the Second World War. After moving to Queensland (Australia) via London, he worked as a cane-cutter, labourer, miner, barman, clerk, grave-digger, bookmaker and fruit-picker, amongst other and varied occupations. He spent two years in Fiji, returning to Australia permanently in 1958. His other unpublished plays include 'The Strange Black Creatures' (1957), 'The First Mrs Peters' and 'The Maoris'.
