Other Names Mr Hyde; T Hyde
Gender Male
Functions Actor, Stage Manager
Notes Stage Manager of Military Theatre in Auckland in 1851. Manager of new Theatre Royal, High Street Auckland, from November 1853. . Corporal Hyde is an indefatigable fellow — one who, in his time, has played many parts,— and several of them to the advantage of Auckland:— : Nqw, 'marching into the bowels of the land,' in the capacity of garrison well-sinker; now, blasting the spurs of Mount Eden, as garrison quarry man; now regulating the monkey, as pier pile-driver; - now lending his assistance to a T in Official Bay; - now boring the flinty shores of Matakana, as director of the coal experiment; and next, as on Monday evening, with equal zeal, superintending the mise en scene, as conducteur du spectacle. These, surely, are services which entitle him not only to the consideration of his companions in arms, but that of the townsfolk, he has so long, and diligently served. And, as the bill of fare to which he invites us is first-rate, we heartily hope he may be gratified with a bumper house. (Daily Southern Cross, Volume VI, Issue 469, 26 December 1851, Page 3).
