Notes On tour with Herr Bandmann in 1881. As well as appearing in some performances, he was also evidently the new advance agent for the company. It may be Grey who was sacked by Bandmann in June 1881, as noted in the Auckland Observer, Volume 2, Issue 39, 11 June 1881, Page 423: Herr Bandmann has quarrelled with his agent, and the latter, after the manner of angry men who fancy they have been ill used, is going about town telling yarns to the Herr's discredit. We have no particular love for Bandmann and can quite believe he is the reverse of immaculate in some things, but it is not nice or gentlemanly to listen to the tale-bearing of an employee who has got the 'sack,' and people who are mean enough to do so must not growl if they find they get misled. When one man is incensed against another he says many things which he regrets in cooler moments and, generally speaking, he heartily despises the persons who have taken advantage of his anger to draw him out.
