Two Aucklanders who have played a prominent part in amateur dramatic circles, Miss Ysolinde McVeagh and Mr. John Gordon, have been engaged by J. C. Williamson, Ltd., to accompany its English comedy company on its tour through New Zealand. The company, which is headed by Miss Ethel Morrison, also a New Zealander, is presenting St. John Ervine's 'The First Mrs. Fraser,' Rachael Crothers' 'Let Us Be Gay,' and Noel Coward's 'Hay Fever.' Miss McVeagh is one of the best-known players in the Auckland Little Theatre Society, having taken principal parts in six of its productions. She appeared in the society's first production, 'Fanny's First Play,' and in 'The Man of Destiny,' 'The Maid of France,' 'Mrs. Moonlight,' 'The Man They Buried,' and 'A Bill of Divorcement.' She has also acted in many other amateur productions, including Hastings Turner's comedy 'The Lilies of the Field.' With the J. C. Williamson company she will understudy a number of parts, principally those of Miss Mary MacGregor in the three plays mentioned. - Auckland Star 'Stage Jottings', 13 June 1931, page 2. |
