Description | Melbourne-based performer and choreographer, Ros Warby, performs her internationally acclaimed solo dance show SWIFT. Interweaving dynamic vignettes, this elaborate choreography depicts the multifaceted physical and emotional layers of a female character. These layers of character are pulled apart, played out and exaggerated as SWIFT traverses two worlds: that of the imagined and made up, the fairytale, the gremlin, the diva; and that of transformation and the complex, often unknowable qualities, that prompt such transformations.
SWIFT premiered in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 receiving critical and industry-wide acclaim, including a 2004 Australian Dance Award Nomination. This engaging and thought-provoking work has since toured internationally throughout Europe and the United States including New York's Dance Theatre Workshop, Zuercher Theaterspektakel (Zurich Theatre Spectacle), Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) Festival and Melbourne International Arts Festival. It is currently being produced as a film for ABC television in Australia. Alongside her critically acclaimed solo work Ros Warby is well known for her performances and international tours with companies and artists including Lucy Guerin Inc and Deborah Hay Co. Together with filmmaker Margie Medlin and composer Helen Mountfort, Ros Warby has created SWIFT, a witty and mesmerizing work of exceptional virtuosity and beauty. Presented by Dance Umbrella in conjunction with Arts Victoria. |
