| Description |
Bang! Guns and Drum. Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture has perhaps the most outrageous finale of any classical work - as national anthems resound and bells peal triumphantly, cannons fire! In short, a percussionist's dream. Percussionists need to be versatile and athletic, playing dozens of instruments from triangle to tam tams and cannon. Nigel Westlake, places percussion front and centre in his Percussion Concerto (world premiere), a striking piece composed for the Sydney Symphony's Rebecca Lagos. |
