Description ‘Flowers for Algernon'. The play, adapted by Greg Elliott from the short story by Daniel Keyes, tells the story of Charlie, the first mentally disabled person to have his intelligence tripled by surgical means. Algernon is a white mouse that has also undergone the operation. At the height of the experiment's success, with Charlie engaged for the first time in intellectual pursuits, Algernon dies. Charlie's deterioration is rapid. The play explores the realm of social consciousness, the morality of scientific experimentation and the values inherent in trust" and friendship.
