Description From the National Library of Australia's catalogue: f Monsieur Martin and his celebrated lions and other trained animals from the Theatre-Royal, Drury-Lane.Henri Martin was the first lion tamer of the modern era, who incorporated animals into his stage spectaculars to great effect....The animals that figured on the stage were two elephants, a lion and lioness, a llama, a tiger, a pelican, a few monkeys, &c." (Oct. 17, 1831). Four years later, Martin had taken his show into the provinces, and had perhaps in the meantime added a kangaroo to the 'troupe'
