The formal opening of the Free Thought Hall, Campbell street, took place yesterday. The building is of rather handsome appearance, the front being in the modern style of architecture. The interior is embellished with Corinthian columns. The choir gallery is very attractive, consisting of two elliptic arches. The main hall is capable of seating 1000 persons-700 on the ground-floor and 300 in the galleries. Underneath the main hall is another hall, which will seat 300 persons. There are also committee rooms and offices. |
