| Description | Sylvia Rands is prominent in New Zealand theatre. She has devised this solo work using Shakespearean characters to explore roles that western women have assumed, from the constraints of Shakespeare's age to the freedoms of our age. It is a playful mix of comedy and tragedy, dance and music, movement and energy, exploring the sexual ambiguities that Shakespeare was always fascinated by. John Gibson has composed a continuous tape with music and sound effects. The production is designed by Downstage designer Tony Rabbit. Sylvia Rands was Polly Hanlon in TVNZ's "Hanlon" and has played in "Open House", "Shark in the Park", "Hotshotz", and the film "Zilch." At Downstage she has been seen as Katherine Mansfield in Vincent O'Sullivan's play, and in "Les Liaisons Dangereuses." | ||||||||||||||||
