Description 2 operas & 3 ballets after a 6 year break since the 1954 Festival. The 1954 Festival was huge & successful including a Royal Command Performance. Ironically its success led to the Formation of The Elizabethan Theatre Trust which competed directly with The National in the three major art forms and was Government funded. Staff & performers defected to the new group & The National suffered financially & artistically. Rather than scheduling months at The Princess Theatre this season was 9 days at the Palais in St KIlda.
