Description From the furthermost north-eastern corner of India, the Chorus Repertory Theatre of Manipur combines the music and ritual of its ancient tribal culture with that of Hindi religious drama. Based on the life of Emperor Ashok, this vibrant play deals with the fundamentals of human existence. In a production that is visually stunning and draws from a folk music tradition new to the West, it creates some of the most exciting modern theatre to be seen anywhere in the world. One of India's most noted directors, Ratan Thiyam was adviser to Peter Brook's epic production of the Mahabharata.
