On the first day of the celebration, Wednesday, there was an immense gathering of Chinese at the great tent commonly called the Chinese Circus. The performance was what seems to be with our Mongolian friends rather popular a sort of St George and the dragon entertainment, which was witnessed by a large crowd with evident satisfaction. They performed for 3 successive days and were contracted by the temple for the sum of £200. |
