Description |
The play looks deeply at what it means to be Australian and whether our idealistic perception of ourselves has any basis in reality...the plot follows the adventures of Queensland journalist and idealist William Lane who, realising the new land of Australia was adopting the old English ways, decided to leave in 1893 with 230 like-minded people and set up a utopia in South America. Needless to say the utopia failed but along the way we find out the old Australia had more going for it than Lane's idealistic socialist experiment. |
