| Description |
La traviata is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on La Dame aux camélias, a play by Alexandre Dumas fils adapted from his own 1848 novel. The opera was originally titled Violetta, after the main character.
Verdi's moving story of a woman prepared to give up everything for the first real love of her life is one of the most popular of all operas, as the brilliantly direct, unswervingly passionate music charts the course of Violetta's ill-fated love for the young Alfredo. |
