					| Description |
It's about an old man reliving his past, about mateship between cobbers and in marriage, and betrayal. Conventional enough matter, but the script establishes a real sense of the emptiness, loneliness and desolation of this man's old age, the hatred between old and young as Ben finds himself under seige from the forces of consumer capitalism and ambitious youth… The sympathy we feel for him is dissipated as Ben's character is revealed through the skillfully blended flashbacks. In particular, Ben has made his own pragmatic choice when he decided to work on the wharf in 1951. |
