Description A murder trial in Auckland in 1882 forms the basis of this dramatisation created for Theatre Corporate. 'There is a sort of inevitability about the direction of any trial plot. This one is predictable even in terms of its progression. The summing up and depositions are interrupted by re-enactment of some of the background scenes, but even the abruptness of the changes, the ambivalent attitudes of the actors (it is Pirandello in style) and the varied length and order of the elements cannot conceal the basically repetitive format'.
