					| Description |
The dramatic adaptation involves 70 scenes which take in most of Dickens' original plot. The stage adaptation's format is also an echo of the original format. Great Expectations was originally published in a serialised magazine format in 1860. It appeared as a complete book a year later. The Court adaptation focuses on the book's central theme - Pip's aspirations to become a gentleman and his love for Estella. The play contains a Dickensian catalogue of extraordinary characters - Mr Wemmick, Joe Gargery, Miss Haversham, and the convict Magwitch. The stage adaptation is underscored by musical references to individual characters. |
