The story of Carl Linnaeus, the great 18th Swedish botanist who struggled to arrive at a system of naming, hence ordering, the whole natural world of plants ad animals became a complex metaphor for humankind's persistent and disastrous efforts to classify, comprehend and control the universe we live in.
