| Description |
The Sea Horse is the name of a sleazy quayside bar, owned and run by Gertrude Blum ('Big dirty Gerty'), a blowsy, hard-bitten divorcee who takes the occasional lonely sailor upstairs, but more often keeps her clientele at bay with the help pf a baseball bat or an empty bourbon bottle. The play, set after closing time one stormy night and early the next morning, concerns her relationship with Harry Bales, a small-time salt at the stage of life where something more permanent than a casual affair begins to appeal - but Gerty won't hear of it: she's had her fill of married bliss. |
