| Description | Christine Johnston's play Everloving Friends may be about an enduring relationship between two women, but it is also about the enduring relationship between women and words. Some of the words are contained in historical parlour and folk songs - the difference in living conditions between parlour and folk-singer being conveyed between the lines. Most of the words, however, are penned by two young women in letters to each other over many years, after they met on the boat coming out to the young Otago colony.
