Helikon Opera was established in Moscow in 1990 by Dmitri Bertman, and soon were exporting their productions to leading opera houses in Europe and North America. This production, first staged in Canada in 1999, is the first time that Helikon Opera's work has been seen in the southern hemisphere. Also presented at the Aotea Centre, Auckland, 15 -24 September 2005.
