| Description |
On the surface, the story is a total cliche. Successful man falls for idolising young woman and turns his back on the woman who sacrificed her future for his. Their only child judges her mother, remains emotionally bonded to her father and even gets on well with the lover. What's more, it's all played out in the most cliched of settings: a sofa with an armchair to one side and a small writing table off to the other. And the characters just talk, about themselves, each other, their relationships. They have no other wants, needs or projects to claim their attention. It's all stripped to its essence. Maybe that's why it works. |
