Based on King Lear, using most of the text, but gender-switching many roles. Lear becomes Leah. Catchphrase: 'We are born with nothing, We die with nothing, We can only love.' Director Simon Bennett wrote in his programme note: 'King Lear is my favourite play. The central role has to be one of the most demanding ever written. My desire to see Geraldine Brophy play Lear has been the main motivation for this production…'. |
