Onto a stage setting composed of apparently disparate elements - two church kneelers facing one another, a desk with typewriter and chair, an oblong iron framework lying on the floor - comes a procession. A priest and a nun swing thuribles, a chained man is burdened with another iron framework, a woman in neckbrace and straitjacket propels herself along in a wheelchair. There's also a man in a white suit and an aged, wildhaired asexual being. They intone a prayer describing the nauseousness of the human condition. The immediate references are clear. In religious terms these people are describing Christ's journey to Calvary; in existential terms it is the procession of lifeā¦. |
