In a bygone era, long before the days of public transport, brave young Dick (and his Cat!) make their way to Wellington. There he works for a rich merchant - and falls in love with the merchant's daughter. But just when the path of true love is running smoothly, Dick (and his Cat!) are sent away on a sailing ship to make the merchant's fortune… And no matter where he travels, Dick cannot shake off his pantomime Dame mother - 'a poor lonely widow woman'.
