Description On 31 March 1903, Waitohi farmer Richard Pearce piloted a home-built monoplane for 140 meters before crashing it into a gorse bush, seven months before the Wright brothers flew. Pearce had constructed his plane from scrap metal and hand-made parts, even making his own nuts and bolts: a true testament to the Kiwi 'number eight wire' mentality that he embodied. This play, base dupon the book Oh For the Wings of a Moth, looks at the events leading up to this famous flight, focusing on Richard's relationships with his family, neighbours and girlfriend.
