The play had first been performed at the Queen's Theatre London in 1872, with George Rignold in the title role. Evidently, the Wellington performances were the first time the play had been performed 'in the Australias'. (Ad) Touring productions: Henry V, Amos Clarke and Alone, double-billed with Black Ey'd Susan. Overseas Touring Company. Travelling from Australia. Tour included Imperial Opera House Wellington 26 December 1878 - 16 January 1879; Theatre Royal Christchurch 20 January - 1 February; Princess Theatre Dunedin February - 1 March. Rignold & his business manager Mr Macdonald left Dunedin bound for Melbourne (where he was to open at Easter) on 14 March 1879.
