					| Description |
… We must say we felt disappointed with the acting of the play, not so much on account of any flagrant faulls as in that there was a failure to bring into sufficient relief the brilliant sarcasm of the author, and, while there were occasions during the progress of the drama in which Herr Bandmann and Miss Beaudet earned well-merited applause, we do not think this one of the happiest selections from their repertoire. How far this feeling of disappointment was due to the absence of music it would not be easy to measure, as it was probably the first occasion of such a want that anyone present had experienced at a theatrical performance. |

The want of music necessitated a change of programme, for which Mr Reynolds asked the indulgence of the house, and took the opportunity of expressing his disappointment at the small patronage which the performances of the company had hitherto met with. The merits ef the performers were such that the weekly expenses were £320, while the support they had received hitherto from the Invercargill publ'ie was so slight that there was a considerable loss on the performances. This, he considered, was much to be regretted, as it gave no inducements to really first-class companies to visit Invercargill.
