| Description |
As a literary production our regard for Mr McClosky's feelings cannot prevent us stigmatising 'Pomp' as utter rubbish. The story is one containing either many plots or none at all, and, on reflection, the latter statement appears nearest the truth. But if there is no plot, there are death grapples, and a great deal can be done with a properly managed death-grapple if it is introduced often enough. There are, over and above this, assassinations, incantations, a duel, a steamboat explosion, tears, curses, and enough villainy to make a hangman weep. |
