| Description |
The plot is founded upon facts disclosed in the famous Plimsoll enquiry, which did so much to increase the safety of those who go 'down to the sea in ships.' A rotten old tub is heavily insured by her owners, who employ a rascally sailor to scuttle her. The captain's sweetheart, who has overheard the plot for the destruction of the ship, after vainly endeavouring to dissuade her lover from sailing in the doomed vessel, stows away on board. The scuttling takes place, and the crew desert the sinking ship with the captain and his eweetheart. They make a raft, are rescued by a steamer, and justice is done to the villainous owners. |
