The central figure in the piece is a captain in the German navy - an Englishman with an accent - familiarly called Captain Fritz, who, visiting Great Britain, constitutes himself the 'guardian angel', as he puts it, of Lady Vereker and her sister, Sybil Errington, to whose charms he falls an easy and willing prey. |
