| Description |
Carmen, a girl who works in a cigarette factory, has a doomed love affair. Choreographed by Petit in 1949. Petit broke new ground by having the dancers sing and clap during Don Jose's solo in the taverna. 'He created a fusion of opera and ballet in a 50-minute ballet'. |

Presented on tour with a second ballet, L'Arlésienne, also choreographed by Petit, who died in 2011. This is the first time Petit's work has been performed in New Zealand. National. 22 Feb Civic Theatre Invercargill; 25 - 26 Feb Regent Theatre Dunedin; 3 - 4 March ASB Theatre Marlborough; 9 - 10 March Civic Theatre Rotorua; 17 - 18 March Regent on Broadway Palmerston North; 22 - 25 March St James Theatre Wellington; 29 March - 1 April ASB Theatre Aotea Centre, Auckland. Performed (with Petit's choreography, created in 1949) for the first time in New Zealand.
