Description Carmen, a girl who works in a cigarette factory, has a doomed love affair. Choreographed by Petit in 1949. Petit broke new ground by having the dancers sing and clap during Don Jose's solo in the taverna. 'He created a fusion of opera and ballet in a 50-minute ballet'.

Performed (with Petit's choreography, created in 1949) for the first time in New Zealand.
