| Description |
Music by Georges Bizet. Sexy and dramatic, Carmen is set in the seamy underbelly of industrial Rio de Janeiro: bleak work yards, bars with large TV screens for football-mad patrons, streets where lost tourists are robbed. Although still accompanied by Bizet's passionate music, gone is the 19th-century original version of Seville gypsies and bullfighters. The choreography is a mix of contemporary, jazz and ballet movement, with traces of the slicing, paring movement of Brazilian capoeira. |
