The story of the beautiful Ziang Fei's heroism, virtue and loyalty is told in a new opera, especially commissioned for the Festival. The opera traces the love and marriage of Xiang Fei and her husband, his defeat at the hand of the Emperor Chien-lung, her life as hostage in the Emperor's palace and her ultimate act of martyrdom. |
