Description Set in Ceylon, and seldom performed. Leila is a Brahmin priestess, sworn to a life of celibacy. The plot involves love, betrayal, jealousy, and death as Leila and one of the pearl fishers, Nadir, defy social and religious laws by falling in love. This unleashes the wrath of the whole community, and in particular the spurned Zurga, Nadir's friend and the leader of the pearl fishers. Torn between his love for both Nadir and Leila and his jealousy and anger at their treachery, Zurga must decide their fate….
