Description Parable of a young woman torn between love and practicality: her own needs and those of her neighbours. Three gods in search of goodness in a corrupt world visit the city of Setzuan and discover Shen Te, a good but penniless prostitute. She gives shelter to the gods who reward her kindness. But no sooner does Shen Te become a shopkeeper than she must protect herself from greedy townsfolk and an irresistible but unworthy love.
