Description Set in colonial Ceylon, 'The Pearlfishers' tells of a beautiful virgin priestess Leila and her tumultuous impact on the friendship of the French governor Zurga and the young Indian Nadir. Her forbidden love for Nadir is further complicated by a special bond between her and Zurga, a bond which proves crucial to the opera's exciting conclusion.
