Musgrove secured funding to travel to London and import productions. On Monday 27th December, 1880, the Opera Comique season commenced with the first production in Australia of Offenbach's 'La Fille du Tambour Major'. Guns, swords and other arms were especially manufactured by Mr, G. Woods, amourer, of Russel street, Drury Lane, London. Wigs were made to order from Bow street, London. Over 300 costumes were made especially in London. The cast featured Maggie Liddle, John Wallace and H.R Harwood. Pattie Laverne, Nellie Hope, Albert Brennir, J.H. Halliwell and George Dean were all making their first appearances in Australia. |
