Description Mr. Pree takes us to an Australian farmhouse, in a barren countryside, in the year 1913. Its inhabitants are a middle-aged woman, her older husband and their discontented, moodily aggressive son of about 20. Into this household (which is Catholic, humorless and poor) is introduced a desirable but pathologically selfish young woman. Her disastrous impact on the others is revealed in three well-contrived acts, with an ending that has echoes albeit faint ones, of a Greek tragedy.
