Description In the summer of 1827, British authorities arrest seven young Greek sailors off the coast of Crete and charge them with piracy. During their trial on Malta - before a jury of English, Maltese, Sicilian, French and Spanish - the Greeks admit they seized a British ship. They claim they were engaged in a patriotic act, since the ship and its cargo of tin plates were bound for the Ottoman held port of Alexandria. Convicted - three men receive the death sentence while the remaining four are given life sentences. With the aid of their Maltese lawyer they appeal to King George IV for celemency. Within a year all seven find themselves on a boat bound for Botany Bay.
