Description Ben Jonson (1572 -1637) dedicated Volpone "to the most noble and most equal sisters, the Two Famous Universities." The comedy, as written, cannot be performed in under three and a half hours. The sub-plot has been cut in this production to bring it within two and a half hours.
The Argument:
Volpone, childless, rich, feigns sick, despairs,
Offers his state to hopes of several heirs,
Lies languishing: his parasite receives
Presents of all, assures, deludes; then weaves
Other cross plots, which ope themselves, are told.
New tricks for safety are sought; they thrive: when bold.
