Description |
Shakespeare was 36 when he wrote Twelfth Night, and the play does seem to jump with the feeling of grabbing at life's pleasures before they slip away. His Illyria is a holiday world of youth and beauty, far removed from history and the day to day affairs of politics. And yet this enclosed world begins to create its own history. Things that seemed permanent dissolve, fun becomes cruelty, love becomes confusion, beauty a prey to the daily ravages of cigarettes and booze. |
