Description Consisting of two 1 Act Plays, the
evening opens with Chekhov's The
Bear: telling the tale of a grieving
widow who is confronted by a cynical
landowner. As the two argue over debts
owed, what ensues is an electrifying
display of passion.
The Bet is a philosophical study of
the value of life, adapted for the stage from
Chekhov's short story The Bet. After
arguing over the morals of capital
punishment, a wealthy banker bets a
young lawyer that he cannot endure
15 years in solitary confinement
without losing his sanity.
