Description |
Two Lies is based on the deception of memory. It examines the distance between an actual event and what remains in the mind once time has passed. It is essentially the same work done twice with a different filtering of the material each time. This material is loosely based on my memories of time spent on a farm on the West coast of South Australia near the small sea-side town of Venus Bay. These recollections mostly deal with expansive tracts of land and sky but also with a dawning sense of mortality, and a child?s gleeful yet terrified realisation of death. Two Lies was first presented at Gasworks, Melbourne in 1996 under the title Courtabie 1966. It was originally performed by Rebecca Hilton, Ros Warby and myself. Special thanks to these two inspirational colleagues and friends for their support in my early choreographic works and to Margie Medlin for the original lighting design. |
