Description |
"In the comedy The Misanthrope the central character is a man who hates society because of its lack of sincerity. Before Moliere, love was treated in the Spanish fashion, like an heroic passion which enobled. Moliere was the first who, from his own sad experience, treated it like a human weakness. The Doctor in Spite of Himself is a farce, at the expense of the doctors of Moliere's period. The plays were first performed on June 4, 1666, at the theatre of the Palais Royal, Paris. Broken Hill productions are by Roy Williams." |
