| Description |
The action of this Irish comedy takes place in a poor tenement where Mungo King, father of 11, is recovering from a broken leg. Although he is perfectly content with his squalid surroundings, his family are far from happy. Mungo turns a deaf ear to their pleas to move out of Buttermilk Lane and becomes increasingly obstinate and contradictory until Providence steps in on the side of the family and a murder brings about a brisk change of mind - and Mungo moves. The story is simple and almost the entire value of the play is in the pungent dialogue and the rich characterisation. |
