Description |
In the mid-1950s the serene world of academia in which C S Lewis, Oxford Don, theologian, author of The Narnia Chronicles and confirmed bachelor surrounded himself was rudely shattered by the arrival of Joy Gresham, an American poet and writer 17 years his junior, a double divorcee and a self-styled 'Jewish Communist Christian'. At first attracted by an intellect as deep and broad as his own, plus a matching sense of humour and fun, he agreed to a civil marriage so she could stay in the UK. |
