OperatuNiTy presents Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida. If you were at a dinner party in Victorian England at the middle of the 19th century you might have argued about evolution, feminism and women's education. Gilbert and Sullivan wrote Princess Ida (or Castle Adamant) satirising these topics through the medium of an 'invasion', by young gentlemen, of a fantastic medieval ladies university. Although the music is among the best Sullivan wrote, and the dialogue witty, the operetta is not performed as much as other, less happy, Gilbert and Sullivan works.
